CLAA-LA Scholarship Program

History

CLAA is committed to maintaining Cal’s tradition of academic excellence through diversity and pursuing philanthropic activities that serve the Latino community and its students. To further these goals, CLAA raises funds and manages a scholarship program that benefits low-income undergraduate and graduate Latino students who attend Cal.

In order to raise money for this program, while also providing a networking opportunity for local alums and friends of Cal, we host various fundraising events throughout the year.

Over the past seven years, with the help of fellow Cal alums and corporate sponsors like Fox Studio, Alta-Med, Univision, and Wells Fargo Bank, CLAA has raised more than $80,000. These funds have enabled us to award more than 50 scholarships to well-deserving students.

Scholarship Eligibility

Scholarship awards are based upon four primary factors:

  1. Must have attended/graduated from a Los Angeles County High School or Community College

  3. Demonstrated financial need
  4. Written responses to questionnaire and one essay question

If you are chosen as a finalist, you will have a phone or in-person interview with a Scholarship Committee member.

This year’s CLAA Scholarship Program is sponsored by Joe Kapp and his family. Once identified by Sports Illustrated as “The Toughest Chicano,” Joe is proud to continue giving back to his beloved Cal. We are thankful for having a leader like him in our community. Mil gracias, Joe.
