We continue our Cafecito tradition with a conversation hosted by CLAA’s Diego Jácome, as he and a couple of his colleagues at Walt Disney Imagineering lead a conversation on what it means to work abroad. It is a charla by engineers for anyone (including non-engineers) who has ever considered taking their professional talents outside of our EEUU.

Join the CLAA familia and various soccer fans in Southern California, as we settle the debate on which MLS powerhouse is LA’s team. This virtual watch party will be scattered with trash-talking, soccer analysis, and more importantly, a sense of COMUNIDAD among all of us sports-enthusiasts. Fútbol es vida.

All funds raised will go towards our CLAA Chapter Scholarship program and the various logistics involved in empowering our Latinx Cal family through diverse programming.

Our newly admitted Cal Osxs deserve to be celebrated! While we aren’t able to host our traditional BBQ park get-together, we are uniting with our friends at CLAA-SD to welcome all new SoCal Berkeley families to a series of current student/parent testimonials, advice, conversation and community building. There might even be prizes for a few lucky participants!

We invite you to partake in our second Cafecito as a fellow Cal alum leads this conversation. Dr. Huerta will use his expertise in the subject and draw parallels to other communities. The hope is to begin some dialogue on how learning our history informs our solidarity to take action and mobilize.

Álvaro Huerta, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in Urban & Regional Planning and Ethnic & Women’s Studies at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Among other publications, he’s the author of the books: Reframing the Latino Immigration Debate: Towards a Humanistic Paradigm (2013) and Defending Latina/o Immigrant Communities: The Xenophobic Era of Trump and Beyond (2019). He holds a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley. He also holds an M.A. in Urban Planning and a B.A. in History from UCLA.
